Ottawa Folk Fest Podcast

The folks at the Ottawa Folk Festival asked me to host their podcast for them since their ISP was not setup to do that for them. I figured since our last podcast was over 2 months ago, it was time for some new content here. Hey, maybe some folkfest fans will dig our previous and future podcasts!

The 2007 Ottawa Folk Festival runs from Thursday, August 16 to Sunday August 19 and is located at Brittania Park. The schedule can be downloaded in either PDF or RTF which you can print up for your reference. The weather forecast for the weekend looks to be PERFECT festival conditions.

Jamcast Picks - John Brown’s Body

Featuring a collection of live shows from the past few years John Brown’s Body publishes the JBB Podcast

From the JBB website:

Our bass player Scott Palmer passed away today at 12noon. As you may know, Scott was diagnosed with cancer in January of this year. As the bass player for JBB since 2002, Scott was immediately a family member within JBB, blessing us with his great warmth, humor, charm, and of course monstrous bass playing. We are sad beyond words to have lost him today. Condolensces can be sent to Scott’s family: Mr. and Mrs. Vince Palmer PO Box 148 Pultneyville N.Y. 14538 R.I.P. Scottie - we love you.

Jamcast episode 4 - Summer of Festivals

This episode of podcast takes a focus on the summer of 2006’s music festivals that have been making us very excited about this summer. We’ve focused mainly on festivals within 5-8 hours from Ottawa which likely came about because many people we know have been talking about visiting many of these ones. I guess that’s the little music bubble we’re stuck in at the moment.

Moe.down —-> HERE WE GO!

Holding true to the meaning of the word ‘epic’, moe created a masterpiece known as Rebubula. Their studio version proves that a band can go into a rehearsal hall and cut a great track that is longer than it should be. On 02-23-02, inside the Tabernacle, within Atlanta, fans were treated to a percussive filled version. The Warts And All Volume 2 release allowed imagined lines from a banjo or mandolin to not be far off; all the while enabling their rock-star attitude. It’s fairly easy to listen to this, despite its length. In fact, you don’t want to miss it. Think of it as a notch on your belt.

With our time limitations, the 20 minute version from Warts isn’t included but we added a really fantastic cover of Rebubula by an acapala group called the MIT Chorallaries. Check out their repetoire.

Jamcast episode 3 - Frank Zappa

Frank ZappaThis episode of Jamcast came out of a whim. Dave came to me and suggested a couple of Frank Zappa tunes for the next Jamcast and hinted at pissing off Gail Zappa….jokingly of course. That moment made me realize that I know jack shit about Frank Zappa so I suggested that we really dedicate the next episode of Jamcast to Zappa.

Man, am I ever happy that all happened. I managed to get my hands on Zappa’s entire discography and I’m ready to listen, and I have been since Dave was here to record this Zappacast!

As promised, here are the links to some of the things we were talking about.
